Baghdad : A fresh wave of violence hit the Iraqi capital, the northern city of Baquba and surrounding areas Tuesday morning, leaving a total of 17 dead and 25 wounded.
At least 10 people were killed, including six police officers, and as many wounded when a suicide bomber detonated his explosives-laden vehicle near a police checkpoint on the outskirts of Baquba, capital of Diyala province.
In different parts of Baghdad, at least four people were killed and 15 wounded when three explosive charges detonated, a police source told the independent news agency Voices of Iraq.
In one of these incidents, a roadside bomb detonated near a commercial area in the early morning in al-Rashid camp in southeastern Baghdad, killing three civilians and wounding five.
Another explosive devise went off near an Iraqi police patrol in nearby Zaafaraniya neighbourhood killing a policeman and wounding five more.
In the third reported explosion, three policemen and two civilians were wounded in Zayuna neighbourhood, eastern Baghdad. The blast scenes were all sealed off.
Meanwhile, a group of unknown gunmen shot dead a family of three Tuesday in Diyala, while an armed group blew up a fuel station in a nearby district, local authorities told Voices of Iraq.
The Iraqi parents and their daughter were attacked in Mafraq area in Baquba, 60 km north of Baghdad, according to a police source.
The same source said that an armed group blew up a fuel station in Khalis district, 62 km east of Baghdad, but no casualties were reported.
