Mumbai : The Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) has strongly objected to the holding of examination for judicial posts like JMFC and Civil Judge in Gujarat on the Eid Day, which falls on October 14.
In a telegram as well as a detailed memorandum to the Union Law Minister H.R. Bhardwaj, the IUML president G.M. Banatwala has appealed to him to intervene to change the date.
The examination is scheduled to take place at 9 a.m. on the Eid day, October 14.
Ahmedabad is the examination centre for Gujarat and candidates have to come from distant places like Rajkot, Junagadh, Bhuj, Surat and other far flung towns and cities.
"Examination on the Eid Day will be most inconvenient to Muslims and will even deprive them of their Eid Prayers. Muslim candidates will be at a serious disadvantage in taking the examination for valuable judicial posts," the IUML leader said in a statement here Thursday.
He added that the holding of the examinations on the Eid Day is "highly unjust and discriminatory against the Muslim minority, repudiation of the accepted Justice Sachar Committee Report and a negation of the secular spirit."
Earlier, IUML Gujarat State president Hashim Qureshi, Advocate has also met the Chief Minister of Gujarat and submitted a memorandum to him for change of the date.
