Kochi (Kerala) : Power electronics company Hykon India has introduced a window collector solar water heater, claimed to be the first in the country.
Hykon Window Solar Collectors can be installed on balconies and windows of flats, apartments and individual villas where conventional rooftop water heaters do not fit in.
Speaking at the launch, Christo George, chairman and managing director of Thrissur-based Hykon, said that by installing non-conventional energy products of this sophistication, one is eligible for carbon credits, a saleable commodity gaining momentum throughout the world.
“To suit varying needs of apartments and villas, the Hykon window collectors will have various capacities ranging from 150, 200 and 250 LPD. Flat owners and residents of high-rise apartments could make use of this product. This is an effective alternative to conventional water heaters installed on rooftops occupying much space,” said George.
With a nationwide network of 14 branches and 50 distributors, Hykon India targets an ambitious Rs.0.30 billion turnover by 2009-10 from solar water heating products alone.
The prices of Hykon solar water heaters start from Rs.19,750 for a 100 litre system, providing a price advantage of Rs.6,000 a year in terms of saving money on electricity and have an attractive payback period of 1.5 to 2 years.
Since this product has the approval of the ministry of new and renewable energy, the Hykon water heaters are eligible for capital subsidy as well as subsidised soft loan at two percent for domestic and five percent for industrial and institutional installation purposes from select nationalised banks across the country.
