“There is no move to bring an ordinance to fix the tenure of the chief justice,” Minister of State for Information Tariq Azeem said Tuesday.

“These reports are untrue.”

However, there are strong rumours that the law ministry is working on a ‘CJ’s Tenure Act’ and an initial draft was readied a month ago, the Daily Times said.

Made chief justice on June 30, 2005, Chaudhry will reach the retirement age of 65 in 2012.

Known for his forthright criticism of the government and his rulings, Chaudhry was suspended in March on charge of misuse of office to promote his son. However, President Pervez Musharraf’s action triggered a nationwide protest and the apex court restored him to the top post after four months.
