Islamabad : Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf Friday condemned the attack on his opponent Benazir Bhutto in Karachi as a “conspiracy against democracy”.
He called on the Pakistani nation and especially the people of Karachi to stay calm, saying his government would do everything to catch those behind the attack and severely punish them.
Musharraf said he was praying for the more than 165 people who had been killed in the attack and the speedy recovery of the 500 injured.
A suicide bomber had blown himself up in a crowd near Bhutto’s convoy just after midnight local time. Hours earlier, the former prime minister had returned to Pakistan from self-imposed exile.
