Lucknow : Alarmed by incidents of sickness among children after they had mid-day meals in schools, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati has written to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh suggesting drastic changes in the mid-day meal exercise carried out by the central government.
“I have suggested to the prime minister to provide pre-cooked food to children under the central government’s scheme,” she told mediapersons here Wednesday.
“Experience has shown that sub-standard cooking medium was largely responsible for illness of children in certain institutions. Therefore it would be pertinent for the centre to either provide pre-cooked food or also provide the cooking medium instead of allowing schools to make their own procurements,” she said.
