Islamabad : Federal Minister for Interior Aftab Ahmed Khan Sherpao Wednesday said establishment of grand jirga commission will help promote bilateral relations between Pakistan and Afghanistan.Talking to PTV, he said a meeting of Pak-Afghan jirga commission decided to hold a jirgagai (small jirga) in the first week of November.
The Afghan delegation came to Pakistan to attend the meeting and convey names of 25 delegates for the jirgagai.
The small jirga will decide dates about the grand jirga expected to be held after the general elections in Pakistan, Sherpao informed.
After the meeting of a grand jirga commission in Afghanistan a few months back, a process was started to hold talks with opposition groups in Afghanistan to find a way to numerous issues, he recalled.
He said the jirga is working to expand the process of talks with opposition to promote peace in Afghanistan which will have a positive impact on the region.The jirgagai is formed to oversee the pace of progress on decisions made at the grand jirga.
The establishment of jirga commission will help in creating an environment of goodwill between Pakistan and Afghanistan, he added.
No adverse statements were issued from any side after the meeting of the commission, he observed.
People to people contact has increased between the two countries and there is now better understanding on various issues, the minister said.
