Amritsar : Agitating members of the Valmiki community went on a rampage here Friday following the killing of a youth from the community Thursday night in a road rage incident.
Several vehicles, shops and other establishments were damaged by the mob in the Hall Bazaar and nearby commercial areas.
The agitating mob was protesting the killing of Shankar by Harjinder Singh Bony, a relative of the ruling Akali Dal legislator Raminder Singh Bolaria.
Bony had allegedly fired at Shankar from close range after their vehicles collided Thursday night.
The shopkeepers downed their shutters and later protested that the local police failed to react to the situation that allowed the Valmiki community to riot for a few hours.
The protesters demanded that a case of murder be filed against Bony.
The Amritsar police later registered a case against Bony and also booked some youth who led the violent protest.
