He started the day with three birdies on 16th, 17th and 18th and added three more on third, fourth and eighth as he brought home an eight-under 64 that saw him catapult to tied seventh after 36 holes.

Overall five Indians made the cut from the 13 who started the week.

Tied seventh with Gaganjeet was Harmeet Kahlon, who finished his second round in four-under 68 and was tied at 10-under 134. Earlier on Friday, Digvijay Singh who shot a bogey free six-under 66 was in tied fifth as four players shared the lead at the end of the second round.

The drawcard in the event, Lee Westwood lived up to his reputation as he completed the second round in seven-under 65 with seven birdies and no bogeys to join three others in the lead. He joined Chinese Taipei’s Lu Wei-chih who fired a sizzling 10-under-par 62 Friday to get into a tie with Neven Basic (67) and Anthony Kang (65). They were all at 12-under for two rounds and Digvijay was one behind them.

Arjun Singh completed his second round in 68 to go to six-under 136 and in tied 18th place, while Naman Dawar also made the cut easily as he played a fine four-under bogey-free 68 that saw him three-under for the tournament and in tied 48th place.

The eight Indians who missed the cut were Gurbaaz Mann (67-76), Vikrant Chopra (70-73), Amandeep Johl (74-70), Firoz Ali (71-73), Chiragh Kumar (72-74), Vivek Bhandari (75-71), Uttam Singh Mundy (74-74) and Amardip Malik (74-79).

Lu, who is hoping to improve on his 70th ranking on the Asian Tour’s UBS Order of Merit, has been enjoying solid form in the two weeks as he blasted 10 birdies for a 12-under-par 132 at the Jack Nicklaus-designed Damai Indah Golf – BSD Course. While Lu matched the course mark held by Paul Friedlander from Swaziland in 1997, his score will not be considered an official record as the preferred lie ruling was in operation which allows players to lift and clean their balls on the fairways.
