Damascus : Iran’s Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki has said here due to the rapid pace of developments in the region, consultation with the Syrian side is a requisite.
He made the remark while talking to IRNA upon arrival at Damascus International Airport Monday.
“Based on Iran-Syria strategic relations, bilateral talks at various levels, both on cooperation between the two states and regional developments, are being continued,” Mottaki said.
Referring to the recent visit to Iran of the Syrian Foreign Minister Walid al-Mouallem, he said such consultations are needed.
“Today, I am in Damascus to meet the leader and officials of the brother country, the Arab Republic of Syria,” he added.
Mottaki, heading a delegation, is here to discuss issues of mutual interest with senior Syrian officials.
During his day-long visit, the Iranian minister is to confer with President Bashar al-Assad, Vice-President Farouq al-Shara and his counterpart Walid al-Mouallem.
Regular exchange of views between the two countries on bilateral ties and the latest regional developments have been announced as the objectives of Mottaki’s visit.
