Tehran : The commander of Iran’s paramilitary Revolutionary Guards has been replaced by Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Khabar news network reported.
General Yahya Rahim-Safavi would be replaced by General Mohammad Ali Jaafari, but would remain as Khamenei’s military advisor, Khabar reported without giving further details.
Media reports in the US last week said the US government intended to formally apply the label of foreign terrorist organisation to the Iranian Revolutionary Guards.
Tehran had rejected the reports as lacking professional norms and said that the guards were a major part of the Iranian system and such reports could not harm their status in Iran.
