Mumbai : Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has signed an agreement with the Labour Market Regulatory Authority (LMRA) of Bahrain to provide technological and systems support. This would help LMRA to restructure Bahrain’s labour market regulations through strategic reforms.

LMRA chief executive Ali Ahmed Radhi said that the deal with TCS would help LMRA’s work in streamlining and simplifying the process of obtaining work visas.

“This requires a highly automated solution. This project would not be possible without the strong technology support by the TCS,” said Radhi.

TCS has already set up data integration and a composite mainframe system as well as software and application implementation that includes an Expat Management System (EMS).

The EMS automates administrative processes, managing the complete lifecycle of an expatriate from the time he enters Bahrain till the time he leaves the country, according to a TCS press release.

There are around 130,000 Indians in Bahrain, many of them working as contract labourers.

LMRA is responsible for Bahrain’s labour market reforms. It is also responsible for market intelligence, policy development, customer interface and fee collection as well as providing information and communication to stakeholders.

“We have helped LMRA and its customers experience certainty by leveraging superior capabilities in system integration using cutting-edge technologies,” TCS’s Middle East head Manoj Sahai stated in the release.

TCS has also developed an application exclusively for use in the amnesty scheme launched by Bahrain for illegal foreign workers.

In a bid to curb the blatant violation of the country’s labour norms, Bahrain had announced a general amnesty scheme for illegal foreign workers last month.

It asked them and their employers to regularise their work permits or face heavy penalties. The deadline expires Dec 1.

According to the release, the TCS application is playing a vital role in capturing data and helping legalise the expatriate visa structure.
