“To promote the most eco-friendly mode of transportation, Delhi Metro is encouraging cycle users to use Delhi Metro by making special provisions for them at the stations,” Delhi Metro Rail Corporation spokesman Anuj Dayal said.

“All the 42 parking sites of Delhi Metro have facilities where cycles can be parked. The number of stands will be on the basis of the number of cycles parked in a day.

“Like at Seelampur, about 550 to 600 cycles are parked in a day so the stand would have the capacity for about 600 cycles,” Dayal added.

For smart card holders (Metro passes) the cycle parking is free and for other commuters it’s Re.1 for a period of eight hours. However, cyclists can go for a monthly pass of Rs.20.

“Contractors have been asked to display rates of the cycle parking also at parking sites and earmark the space for cycle parking,” he said.

Authorities said cycles would not be allowed to park at 17 stations on Line II (eight) and Line III (nine). It will also not allow night parking of cycles at any stations.

Currently, Delhi Metro is ferrying over 550,000 passengers across its 65-km long network every day.
