AS per the scheme, Jaipur Vidyut Vitran Nigam (JVVN) and CFL manufacturers would enter into an agreement with consumers. JVVN would recover cost of bulbs in instalments by adding it to their monthly bills.

“We have already decided to offer free space to CFL manufacturers to sell their products at over 60 bill collection counters in the city”, R G Gupta, chairman and managing director, JVVN, told IANS here Monday.

He said that the scheme would not be mandatory. Sources in the distribution company said that a private CFL manufacturing company has shown interest in the project.

A CFL uses less energy and has a longer rated life. The cost of a CFL is higher by almost 5-10 times than an incandescent lamp of same output. This cost is recovered through energy savings assuming average lamp use.

It is estimated that use of CFLs and solar water heating plants would reduce power consumption by 20-30 percent.

Sources said that the government has also decided to replace high-powered sodium lights installed in colonies or outside houses with energy-saving tube lights. It has also been decided to install solar-powered lights in parks.

Besides this, the government has also decided to conduct energy audits in government offices from time to time.
