Aligarh: 17 students were suspended by AMU as police claimed to have solved the murder that lead to the violence on campus earlier this month. Police arrested three residents of near by areas of AMU claiming that they are the ones who killed student Mazhar Naeem to snatch mobile phone from him.
Today the AMU administration suspended 17 students for taking part in violence while protesting the death of Mazhar Naeem. These students ransacked the Vice-Chancellor’s lodge and other university offices. University claimed that these acts are a “violation of the students’ conduct and disciplinary rules, 1985.” These students are suspended and not allowed on campus till an inquiry is complete.
Yesterday a delegation lead by a delegation led by AMU Vice Chancellor Professor P K Abdul Azis, consisting of Dr. Mahfooz Ahmad, Honorary Treasurer and Mr. Waseem Ahmad, Member Executive Council met Human Resource Development Minister, Mr. Arjun Singh in New Delhi. Earlier, the Executive Council of the Aligarh Muslim University has taken decision to implement tough security measures for providing peace and security on campus. Minister was informed of these decisions and requested to provide Central paramilitary forces for deployment in AMU. Maximum Z-level security is also requested for the new VC Prof. PK Abdul Azis.
Arjun Singh instructed ministry officials to urgently process the University’s request for the early deployment of the forces in consultation with the Ministry of Home Affairs.
