Mosul, Iraq : A suicide bomber blew up his car near Iraqi Army vehicles in a village in the northern province of Nineveh on Saturday, killing six people and wounding 17 others, including soldiers, a provincial Iraqi Army source said.
“Based on information received from the residents of the al-Mazra’a village near the town of Tal Afar, 70 km west of Mosul, an Iraqi Army force chased the suspected suicide car bomber and opened fire on his car,” the source told Xinhua on condition of anonymity.
The suicide bomber blew up his explosive-laden car and killed three soldiers and three civilians, wounding 17 others, including undetermined number of soldiers, the source said.
The blast destroyed a military vehicle along with several nearby civilian cars and buildings, he said.
Also near Tal Afar, Iraqi soldiers seized a cache of weapons and a large amount of ammunition and explosives in the village of Allaw, the source added.
Mosul, the capital city of Nineveh province, some 400 km north of Baghdad has long been the hotbed of insurgency against the U.S. and Iraqi security forces.
