China, Pakistan vow to boost military cooperation

Beijing : Chinese Defence Minister Liang Guanglie Thursday called for deepening of cooperation between the militaries of his country and Pakistan.

Liang, who is also a state councillor, made the remarks during a meeting here with Pakistan’s Chief of the Naval Staff, Admiral Muhammad Afzal Tahir.

Liang said that the defence establishments and militaries of the two countries had maintained multi-level cooperation in a wide range of fields.

He expressed his hope that the two sides would make joint efforts to further promote exchanges and bilateral cooperation to consolidate strategic partnership.

Tahir said that Pakistan and China had maintained sound political and military relations and Islamabad was ready to work with Beijing to expand the strategic cooperative partnership.

Tahir voiced his government’s firm support of the Chinese government’s position on the Taiwan and Tibet issues and opposition to any move deliberately violating the spirit of the Olympic Games.

“We believe that Beijing will host a peaceful, successful and harmonious Olympic Games,” Tahir said.
