First Kashmiri Muslim to become major general

Since childhood, he has kept his desire to be in the Army on fire. Now that he has become major general, for the children of his native village is a hero in whose footsteps they all want to follow.

He got primary education in his native village of Dadsara. But his desire to go ahead, ahead from others in his village, his community and state, moved him to first Srinagar and then Pune where he studied further.

He was commissioned in the Corps of Engineers in 1974. He was awarded the Sena Medal in 1993. He is currently posted as the Assistant Chief of the Integrated Defence Staff in New Delhi. Hundreds of miles away from the capital, people at his home and village are celebrating his ascension.
