New Delhi : Defence counsel in the high-profile Nitish Katara murder case Friday said that a key witness was “planted” and his version of story was “cooked” up.
Counsel was initiating the final arguments in the court of Additional Sessions Judge Ravinder Kaur and said Ajay Katara, who claimed that he saw the victim Nitish with accused Vikas Yadav, was a bogus witness.
“Why did he keep silent for a month if he had last seen Nitish Katara before his murder?” counsel argued.
He added that a month after the incident Ajay and the media had cooked up a story against the accused.
The prosecution wrapped up their final arguments in the case in December.
Special public prosecutor B.S. Joon during his arguments said the accused had the motive to kill Nitish as the Yadavs did not approve of his intimate relationship with his sister Bharti.
Prosecution alleges that Vikas, son of controversial Uttar Pradesh politician D.P. Yadav, and his cousin Vishal Yadav abducted Nitish from a marriage function of a common friend Shivani Gaur in Ghaziabad and killed him on the intervening night of Feb 16-17, 2002.
