New Delhi : In a major counter-insurgency success, as many as five insurgents of Pakistan-based Hizbul-Mujahideen (HM) were killed by the security forces in separate encounters in Indian-administered Jammu and Kashmir Wednesday.
Four HM rebels were killed in an encounter with the security forces in Kashmirs Reasi district this morning, news agency United News of India reported, quoting an Jammu and Kashmir police spokesperson.
The slain insurgents have been identified as Gazi alias Badshah Khan, Talib Bakkarwal, Basarat alias Rafiq Ahmed, and Mansoor Hussain, the spokesperson said.
Two AK-47 rifles, one pistol, one grenade launcher, four magazines, six hand grenades, one radio set were recovered from the encounter site, he said.
In a separate encounter in Kashmirs Doda district today, another HM rebel was killed by the security forces. The slain rebel has been identified as HM commander Javed Jatt, the spokesperson said.
Indian security forces have received considerable success against HM since January 2008. On Monday night HM “divisional commander” Gulam Hassan Wani was killed by the security forces. Wani was the oldest surviving insurgent in Jammu and Kashmir.
