Coalition forces searched in Garm Seer district of Helmand province targeting a known Taliban commander and weapons-smuggler, the statement said.

“Twelve individuals with suspected links to the targeted Taliban commander and Taliban weapons-smuggling operations were found,” it said, “several small-caliber weapons and rocket-propelled grenades were also found and removed on the site.”

Conflicts and Taliban-related violence have left nearly 400 people dead so far this year in war-torn Afghanistan, where Taliban militants recently have vowed to launch the “Spring Offensive” to intensify their guerrilla-style attacks on national army and foreign troops.
