Tel Aviv : Israeli forces arrested a Hamas field commander in the Gaza Strip in an operation that killed the commander’s 14-year-old daughter and wounded several Palestinians, Israel’s Defense Ministry said on Sunday.
Israeli forces clashed with the Palestinian militants on Saturday in the northern Gaza town of Beit Lahiya. Heavy fighting erupted after the Israelis seized local Hamas leader Talat Hassan Marouf in his Gaza home.
Israel says raids against militants in Gaza are being carried out in an effort to halt Palestinian rocket attacks on Israel’s southern towns.
The radical militant group Hamas seized Gaza from President Abbas’ Fatah in June, leaving the Palestinian leader in control of the West Bank.
