Kuala Lumpur : A Malaysian Indian businessman who stood bail for five Hindu Rights Action Force (Hindraf) leaders last year was barred, but later allowed by the immigration department to fly to Chennai, India.
K.P. Samy has said he would write to the Malaysian home ministry to protest against this treatment.
“I will write to the home ministry on the matter as it is not right for them to prevent me, without any valid reasons, from travelling abroad.”
He had bailed out the five Hindraf leaders who courted controversy last November by organising a protest rally.
The five – M. Manoharan, 46, P. Uthayakumar, 46, V. Ganabatirau, 34, R. Kengadharan, 40, and K. Vasantha Kumar, 34, have since been placed under two-year detention.
Samy was part of a group of 60 scheduled to travel to Chennai Sunday.
The group left without him after he was barred, The Star newspaper said.
“I was made to understand that I was prevented from travelling to India due to a miscommunication between the police and immigration department,” said an upset Samy.
Samy said he had gone to the Selangor Immigration Department headquarters in Shah Alam and was told that the order to bar him from leaving the country had come from the police.
“I then went to the Shah Alam district police headquarters and was told to go to Bukit Aman. When I went there, an officer immediately contacted the immigration department in Putrajaya,” said Samy.
The police officer was told that Samy could leave the country anytime he wanted to.
