Cairo : Kuwait and Egypt have a long cultural history of cooperation, and recently both Arab countries attended and held several joint cultural activities that reflected these strong ties.
Last July, Kuwait took part in the 7th International Summer Festival at Bibliotheca Alexandrina, which saw the participation of 18 states. The festival involved various music, song and cinematic activities in addition to exchange of cultural experiences.
The Gulf country also held the “Kuwait in the Heart of Egypt” which also involved several cultural activities.
Egypt also sent about 102 rare books to Kuwait last June, after restoring them. The books were delivered at a ceremony attended by Egypt’s Director of the Centre and Museum of Manuscripts Youssif Zidan, who pointed out that restoration work spanned six months, during which experts performed a series of steps necessary to revive this rare writings.
Speaking about the strong relations, Director of Alexandria’s library Dr. Khalid Azab told KUNA on Saturday that cultural relations between both states were strong and solid.
The library is very keen on participating in Kuwait’s international book fair in addition to other cultural events like the Qurain cultural festival, said the official.
Azab indicated that Kuwait University recently sent about 190 books as well as 400 periodicals to the library.
He noted that the library also celebrated the 50th anniversary for Al-Arabi magazine, producing a film and a catalogue about the cultural impact of the magazine in the Arab world.
