When devotees turned up for prayers Monday, they found the brass statues and the huge brass bell missing.

Police said they suspected the hand of anti social elements who used to frequent the temple and the garden which mostly remains deserted during the day.

Mahatma Gandhi stayed at the temple for 11 days for treatment by a local Vaidya (ayurvedic medical practitioner) of Rawatpar.

Most books and documents on Mahatma Gandhi make no mention of his visits to Agra. However the Ela Joshi Gazetteer of 1965 (the last one on Agra) mentions Gandhi’s four visits in 1918, 1919, 1921, and 1929.

The municipal corporation of Agra is presently looking after the temple, which is in poor condition.
