Gandhinagar : Law will not spare terrorists and they will be punished by the god, Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi said in his address to the people of the state on the eve of the Independence Day, and assured them that his government will not tolerate extremism.
“The threat of terrorism is looming over the mankind. It poses great challenges for the mankind. We have remained successful in curbing terror attacks for the last six years but cowards have backstabbed us, they have targeted hospitals, taking lives of innocent people,” Modi said.
“Law of the land will never spare them, besides the punishment from god.”
He was referring to the 20-odd synchronised bombings in Ahmedabad July 26, in which at least 55 people were killed and about 2,000 injured. Two bombs had gone off at two hospitals where those injured in other blasts were being rushed.
“I assure the people of Gujarat that Gujarat will not tolerate terrorism. We are committed to zero tolerance. It is not my job to lecture the nation. How can we allow such outfits to spill blood of innocents in the land of Mahatma Gandhi and Sardar Patel?” he said.
Modi also resolved to empower every Gujarati in the state’s march to the new horizon of development and prosperity.
Fruits of Independence must reach the poorest of the poor and the state government was committed to create a ‘golden Gujarat’, he said.
“As we enter the 62nd year, let us remember those who sacrificed their lives for realizing the dream of Independence.”
The state government’s official celebrations of the Independence Day Friday will be held in Palanpur in Banaskantha district in north Gujarat, in its bid to take such celebration closer to the people.
