Paswan announces cash award for gold winning archers

Jamshedpur, India : Union Minister of Steel Ram Vilas Paswan announced cash awards for the archers, who won gold at the international level as well as at the ongoing 1st Junior and Cadet Archery Championship here.

Paswan, who was present during the championship at the JRD Tata sports complex here on Saturday, announced a cash reward of Rs 1 lakh each for World Cup gold medalists Jayant Talukdar and Rahul Banerjee in the men’s section and Dola Banerjee and Jhanu Hansda in the women’s section.

Jharkhand Archery Association (JAA) Secretary Sanjeeva Singh, who was conferred with the Dronacharya Award recently for his outstanding contribution in promoting the game in the country, said the union minister also announced Rs 50,000 each to junior and cadet archers who won gold in the current championship in recurve and compound divisions.

Jayant and Rahul won gold medals in the men’s recurve division of the World Cup at Crotia in 2006 and Turkey in 2007 respectively, while Dola clinched gold in the World Cup held in Dubai, 2007 and Hansda bagged Asian and Commonwealth Championship held in New Delhi and Jamshedpur respectively.

Speaking on the occasion, Paswan appreciated the efforts by Tata Steel and SAIL for setting up the archery academy which has produced archers of international repute.
