Cairo : A senior leader of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad movement arrived in Cairo on Sunday morning for the resumption of an inter-Palestinian dialogue hosted by Egypt, the Egyptian official MENA news agency reported.
Ramadan Abdullah Shalah, who arrived here from Damascus, will have talks with Egyptian officials for the inter-Palestinian dialogue that is expected to kick off on Aug. 27.
According to earlier reports, Egyptian mediators will start talks this week with Palestinian groups at bilateral level for the resumption of the inter-Palestinian national dialogue.
The talks between Egyptian officials and representatives of Palestinian factions aim at hammering out a unified view among Palestinians to close ranks, an Egyptian source told MENA on condition of anonymity.
Following the bilateral meetings, Egypt will then oversee a comprehensive Palestinian dialogue to help the Palestinians get out of the current crisis and rifts among rival Palestinian movements, said the source.
In the past months, Egypt has been trying to broker a Palestinian reconciliation after it succeeded to broker a ceasefire between Israel and the Palestinian Hamas movement which rules the Gaza Strip.
