Four judges of Lahore High Court (LHC) took oath of their offices, administrated by Syed Zahid Hussain, Chief Justice of the LHC.

Earlier, eight judges of Sindh High Court took oath of their offices. According to official sources four more judges of the LHC are likely to be restored soon.

Nearly 60 judges, including former Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Iftikhar Muhammad Chauhdary, were deposed by President Musharraf during his emergency rule in November last year.

Since then the judges had been under house arrest and the lawyers have launched movement for their reinstatement.

The civilian coalition government led by Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and Pakistan Muslim League (PML-N) announced that all judges would be reinstated after forming government in March. However, the two parties later developed differences over the judges issue and parted their ways.

The PML-N has been demanding reinstatement of all judges including CJP Iftikhar, whereas, the PPP wants restoration of all except Iftikhar.
