In a press conference on Sunday Joint Police Commissioner of Police (Crime) Rakesh Maria said, ‘The entire group had been hand-picked by Lashkar-e-Taiba for this particular operation.’

Maria told that the information was revealed during interrogation of Ajmal Amir Kesab (perhaps Qassab), the 21-year-old who was held in the attacks.

Ajmal also revealed that the terrorists came to Mumbai through Arabian Sea and they had AK 47 rifles, revolvers, pistols, hand grenades and a huge heap of bombs.

According to Maria the terrorists had the map of important places, five star hotels, hospitals and CST railway station of southern Mumbai. As per the plan four terrorists went to Taj Hotel, two to Hotel Oberoi, two to Nariman House while two others attacked CST railway station. He also said that those who attacked CST went to Cama hospital via platform No.1 Bridge.

‘Only the camera fixed at CST station was working while the cameras in the two hotels were dead,’ said Maria responding to a question. He also said that the ID cards on the terrorists were fake. The crime branch is also investigating as to who was behind the taxi blasts in Vile Parle and near the Railway Police Commissioner Office.

Asked whether the terrorists used RDX or not Maria said that the explosives recovered from them have been sent for forensic test in lab and only after the repot it will be evident whether the explosive used by them was RDX or any other chemical.

The Joint Police Commissioner of Police said the news that there was a woman clad in burqa to guide the terrorists near Cama hospital is not true. Likewise he declared the news of the terrorists having adopted employment in Taj hotel, or renting a room in Nariman house before the attack as false. That the terrorists had 100 kg chicken bought before the attack was fabricated according to him.

Regarding the name of the arrested he said we are in connection with the central intelligence agencies and are trying to verify many things which also include the name. ‘On many occasions the terrorists are known to use aliases,’ Maria said.

Maria also claimed that the terrorists got training in different places of Pakistan. ‘They were trained in certain parts of Pakistan and brainwashed in those camps for over one-and-a-half years.’

He added that there is no information so far that terrorists were given local help but the police are investigating.

‘The investigation is going on by the help of the central intelligence agencies,’ said Maria.

It means that ATS will not be involved in the case.
