Ranchi : Maoist guerrillas blew up the ancestral house of a former minister in Jharkhand’s Chatra district, the police said Sunday.
According to the police, about 30 to 40 rebels belonging to the Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) Saturday night raided Kari Moktama village of Chatra district, about 290 km from here.
Former minister and BJP legislator Satyanand Bhokta’s ancestral house is in the village. The Maoist rebels asked Bhokta’s family members, including his wife and brother, to vacate the house.
Maoist rebels then used explosives to blast the house. No one was injured in the incident.
After blowing up the house, the Maoists left a pamphlet laying claim to the act. The rebels also took away food grains, a television and other household items from the former minister’s house.
Last year Maoist rebels had blown up the house of Water Resources Minister Kamlesh Singh.
Maoist rebels are active in 18 of the 24 districts of the state. In last seven years, over 1,300 people, including civilians and Maoist rebels, have been killed.
