New Delhi : Six people were rescued from the debris of a four-storeyed under-construction building that collapsed in east Delhi Saturday, the police said.
The building, which was being constructed atop an old house in Krishna Nagar area, caved in around 11.40 a.m. Three floors had been built while work was underway on the fourth floor.
Seven fire fighting tenders took time to reach at the spot through the narrow lanes of the neigbourhood. Delhi Police and Municipal Corporation of Delhi officials also reached the spot.
Six people were rescued from the debris that were spread over a large area. They were taken to the Hedgewar Hospital, where the condition of two people was stated to be serious.
“There could be more people inside and a rescue operation is in full swing,” said an official of the Delhi Fire Service.
A Delhi Police official, who visited the spot, said poor quality of construction material and the building of the fourth floor could be the reasons for the collapse.
“We are trying to locate the builder and the owner of the house. A case will be registered against them,” the official said.
