Gaza : Israeli warplanes staged wide scale strikes on Saturday targeting Hamas-occupied buildings in Gaza Strip and killing at least 140 people, a medical official said.
Dr. Muawiah Hassanain, in charge of the emergency ward of the Palestinian Health Ministry, said in a statement that the strikes left hundreds of people wounded, including many women and children.
Among the dead was Major General Toufic Jaber, the police chief of the dismissed Hamas leadership, and Abu Ahmad Ashour, the governor of the central province of the strip, he added.
The successfive waves of air strikes targeted buildings and strongholds in Gaza City, Jabaliya Camp and the towns of Beit Hanoun and Beit Lahiya.
