“The minimum temperature will be 8 degrees Celsius tomorrow (Wednesday) and the maximum will be around 22 degrees Celsius,” a meteorological department official said.

In comparison, the mercury had plummeted to 3.9 degrees Celsius Dec 31, 2007.

However, dense fog will continue to envelope the capital in the morning considerably reducing the visibility.

On Tuesday, for the second successive day, the capital woke up to a cold morning blinded by a heavy fog cover. The minimum temperature was recorded at 8 degrees Celsius, while the maximum temperature was 20.8 degrees Celsius.

“On this day last year, the maximum temperature was 22 degrees Celsius and the minimum 4 degrees Celsius,” a met office spokesman said.

The coldest day of this winter season so far has been Dec 26 with the minimum temperature dipping to 6.4 degrees Celsius.
