Anger is mounting in Mai village in Gaya district, some 100 km from here, after a group of Hindus Monday denied burial to the two bodies in the graveyard at nearby Madhav Bigha village.

“The situation continues to be tense and Hindus villagers are adamant not to allow Muslims to bury their dead in the graveyard,” said district administration official.

“The district administration has intervened to find a peaceful solution but it appears a difficult task,” an official said.

Gaya Superintendent of Police R. Malar Vizhi added that she was camping in the village to resolve the issue.

“I will inform you when the issue is solved peacefully,” Vizhi told IANS.

She said senior district officials were trying hard to convince the villagers to allow the burial.
