The All India Council of Technical Education has approved the course and the institute hopes that the new generation of entrepreneurs can be made through educational interventions, Dinesh Awasthi, the director of the institute, said here.

The institute, which would complete 25 years of existence in April, has been feeling “constrained” despite finding huge potential for growth because the campus cannot be expanded.

“EDI, because of the constraint on expansion of physical infrastructure, is not able to enrol more students for its courses as locating them outside the campus is every expensive.”

“So, we are trying our best to tap resources in order to keep up the growth momentum of the institute over the next five years,” Awasthy said.

For this reason, the EDI has remained a “high value low visibility” institution, Awasthi added.

Elaborating on the new course, Sunil Shukla, chief of faculty of EDI, said the PGDMBE is basically aimed at empowering new entrants – those without business background as well as those who have a family business background – to succeed in spite of globalisation and resultant pressures. The orientation of course is towards job creation and not job seeking.

The course offers unconventional inputs such as customer orientation, crisis management, creativity and problem solving besides business plan preparation, he added.
