Mumbai : The Indian capital market opened flat Thursday on mixed cues from Asian as well as US markets.
The 30-share sensitive index (Sensex) of Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) opened with a marginal loss of 15.47 points at 17,810.52.
Twenty minutes into the trade, Sensex was trading at 17,828.07 points, up 3 points compared to its previous close.
At the same time, the broader 50-share S&P CNX Nifty on the National Stock Exchange was down 6.75 points at 5,261.75.
The market breadth was modest with low volumes. In initial trade, 759 scrips advanced, 633 declined and 36 remained unchanged.
Trading fortunes at Asian markets were mixed. Hong Kong’s Hang Seng moved in the green, Japan’s Nikkei slipped 1.48 percent, Singapore’s Straits Times was down 0.95 percent, South Korea’s Seoul Composite was flat at 1,721.76 points.
Tata Communications, Hindalco Industries, Sterlite Industries and Dabur India were among the gainers at initial trade at BSE.
HCL, Infosys, Union bank and Asian Paints were among the top laggards on the indices.
