Bhan is now Eastern Air Command chief

Kolkata : Air Marshal S.K. Bhan took over as the new Air Officer Commanding in Chief (AOC-in-C) Eastern Air Command Tuesday.

He succeeds Air Marshal P.K. Barbora who took over as AOC-in-C Western Air Command, a defence press statement said here.

Bhan, an alumnus of the Royal College of Defence Studies, Britain, graduated from the National Defence Academy in June 1969 and joined the Air Force Academy to undergo flying training. He was commissioned in the Air Force in Dec 1970 as a fighter pilot.

He has held various staff and field appointments, which include command of a Mig-21 Squadron, Chief Operations Officer of a wing, commander of a fighter base, Director of Offensive Operations and Inspections at Air Headquarters, Air Defence Commander of South Western Air Command and Senior Air Staff Officer of Western Air Command.

Bhan has been honoured with Vayu Sena Medal 1994 and Ati Vishisht Seva Medal (AVSM) 1999.
