Sonia Gandhi stable, still in hospital

New Delhi : Congress president Sonia Gandhi, who was hospitalised with a chest infection on Jan 1, continued to be in hospital Friday with doctors saying she was making “steady progress”.

Though there was no word when the ruling United Progressive Alliance (UPA) chairperson would be discharged from the Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, Congress sources said she might stay there till Sunday.

“Sonia Gandhi, who was suffering from chest infection, is making steady progress,” B.K. Rao, chairperson of the board of management of the hospital, said in a brief statement.

He said that her condition was “stable” and she was “continuing rest”.

Gandhi, 61, who is being treated by a three-member team of doctors, was admitted to the private ward of the hospital with a cough and a slight breathing problem. The hospital said she had “chest infection”.
