Police had to use force to disperse the protesting pilgrims and their relatives at the Karipur International Airport, 40 km from the city centre.

The pilgrims were incensed as the flight was delayed by 24 hours and their luggage also did not reach the airport.

While the pilgrims raised slogans inside the terminal, their relatives outside blocked the road to the airport.

In the melee, some glass panes at the airport were broken. The pilgrims and their relatives ended the protest following talks with state Haj Committee chairman A.K. Abdul Hameed.
