Srinagar : Senior Kashmiri separatist leader Sheikh Abdul Aziz Friday joined the moderate group of the Hurriyat Conference led by Mirwaiz Umar Farooq.
Sheikh, chairperson of the Peoples League (PL), told reporters that his decision to join the moderate faction of the Hurriyat was “to forge unity among the separatists in Kashmir”.
“Kashmiris are the basic party to the dispute and must be involved in the ongoing peace process to make it meaningful and result oriented,” he said, appealing to other separatist leaders to join the Hurriyat Conference.
He said he condemned “continued human rights violations of people by the security forces”.
Another senior separatist leader Shabir Shah is also joining the moderate group next week.
