New Delhi : Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Vice-President Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi has termed the great Muslim freedom fighter Maulana Muhammad Ali Jauhar as “Osama bin Laden of his age” and the University named after him in Rampur as the “den of terrorists”.

Addressing a meeting of party workers of Barailly and Moradabad divisions held in Rampur on January 13 to prepare the ground for the scheduled visit of BJP’s prime ministerial candidate Lal Krishna Advani to Rampur a month later, Naqvi said, “The university being built in the name of Maulana Muhammad Ali Jauhar would prove the greatest refuge of terrorists. Rs. 200 crore of terrorists have been spent on its construction.”

Reacting to this unfortunate statement made by the so-called Muslim leader of BJP, All India Muslim Majlis-e-Mushawarat president Dr. Zafarul Islam Khan has severely criticised and called it “BJP’s political and intellectual bankruptcy”.

The Mushawarat leader wondered that the party that has been trying to regain the power at the Centre once again has neither denied the said statement nor dubbed it as misquoted by media even after the passage of two days since Naqvi made it.

“Only a person who is totally ignorant of the Freedom Movement of India can make the unfortunate statement that Maulana Muhammad Ali Jauhar was ‘Osama bin Laden of his time’. This statement means that it was a terrorist act to fight against the British imperialism,” Dr. Khan said.

“If seen in real perspective, Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi’s statement represents the real feelings of the Sangh Parivar and proves the RSS working as the agent of the British and its leaders submitting an apology before them. His party leaders have declared India as the ‘natural ally’ of the present global imperialist powers,” Dr. Khan added.

“Maulana Muhammad Ali Jauhar was a freedom fighter in the second and third decades of the 20th century. The non-cooperation movement owes allegiance to him and Jamia Millia Islamia was established by him. He led the freedom struggle from 1911 till his death in 1931 in a quite selfless manner. He was elected president of the Congress Party in 1923 and remained a champion of Hindu-Muslim unity all through his life,” Dr. Khan further said.
