Going out of the tournament on the first day were third seed Rudaresh Sharma, fifth seed Ajeetesh Sandhu and tenth seed Chien Yao Hung of Chinese Taipei.

While 60th seeded I.K. Ponappa claimed the scalp of fifth seed Sandhu, 62nd seed Sidharth Seth beat third-seed Sharma 2-up. Aditya Singh defeated 10th seed Chien. Also going out was defending champion Prabagaran from Sri Lanka, who went down to 37th seed Arshdeep Tiwana.

Jaipur lad Aditya ran up a comfortable four hole lead as he parred the first four holes, while Chien, who represented Chinese Taipei in the last Asian Games, was unable to break par on any of them.

However, Chien reduced the margin on the sixth hole, thanks to a double bogey by Aditya. The margin came down further to 2-0 as the Chinese Taipei amateur parred the tenth, while Aditya bogeyed.

Aditya then birdied the 13th and 14th to once again go four-up. Though he lost the next hole, he squared the 16th with a par to win 3 and 2.

In the midst of these upsets, top seed Jamal Mollah and second-seeded Shahid, both from Bangladesh, fourth seed Rahul Bakshi, seventh seed Abhijit Chadha, eighth seed Pawan Kumar and ninth seed Amanjyot Singh, all from India, registered easy victories to advance to the next round. In another match 31st seed Kanishk Madan defeated Pakistan’s best golfer Adil Jahangir.
