Tehran : Reacting to a joint Saudi-French communique, IRI Foreign Ministry Spokesman said here Wednesday Iran is initiator of nuclear weapons free Middle East region.
According to a Foreign Ministry Communique, Mohammad-Ali Hossein further reiterated, “Iran proposed this idea a couple of decades ago for the first time, and has been insisting over it for decades as a pivotal strategic foreign policy objective in the framework of our country’s sustainable development plans.”
Saudi Arabia and France recently in a joint communique issued at the end of French President Nicholas Sarkozy’s Saudi visit. The two countries have asked Iran to abide by its commitments in accordance with the nuclear NPT and to reply positively to the IAEA demand for establishment of a nuclear weapons free Middle East zone.
The Foreign Ministry spokesman has stressed that any type of linking between Iran’s peaceful nuclear program and the plan for declaring the Middle East region a nuclear free zone is quite irrelevant, under such conditions that quite surprisingly the Zionist regime’s countless nuclear warheads are still remaining totally unchecked.
Hosseini added, “The Islamic Republic of Iran has been cooperating with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in every possible way quite vastly aimed at trust building on its nuclear activities and such measures were even inclusive of abiding by the NPT Additional Protocol and unexpected IAEA inspectors’ checking of Iran’s nuclear facilities.”
He said, “Unfortunately, the illegal and irrational reference of Iran’s nuclear dossier to the UN Security Council, as a result of the US and a few of its allies hegemonic policies, led to the IRI Parliament’s decision to revise that approach.”
The Foreign Ministry spokesman stressed, “Under the current conditions the process of Iran’s constructive and helpful cooperation proceeds with the Agency, within the framework of the Action Plan, and all these moves are obvious proofs for the peaceful nature of the Islamic Republic of Iran’s nuclear program and our country’s full abidance by the Agency’s nuclear NPT.”
He reiterated, “The most obvious manifestation of such cooperation was observed in the latest report of the IAEA Secretary General Muhamed ElBaradei, as well as the report of the US intelligence agencies.”
Hosseini expressed hope that “Iran’s friends in Saudi Arabia”, will never fall preys to the intrigues and suspicions of the ultra-regional powers.
He meanwhile noted that the volume of contracts signed between France and regional countries for construction of nuclear power plants and the regional countries’ approach towards taking advantage of this undeniable energy source proves how logical Iran’s insistence over taking advantage of this clean technology has been over these past years, side by side with the other energies.
