Kundal Committee ghost continue to hunt JK Assembly

House adjourned till Monday as opposition create ruckus, ransacks furniture

Jammu : It was the second day of protest by the opposition parties in the Jammu and Kashmir state Legislative Assembly creating uproar and commotion over the alleged corruption charges against two coalition ministers pointed out by the much published Kundal Committee Report on alleged irregularities in the forest department.

Refusing to budge down before the coalition government, the opposition members on Thursday were seen united, furious and agitated the members resorted to slogan rising and disrupted the House proceeding forcing the speaker Tara Chand to adjourn the House till Monday.

Soon after the House met, here this morning, the NC members were on their feet to protest against the “government failure to act against the tainted ministers”.

Demanding immediate removal of the accused minister `named in the Kunal committee report’, the opposition members from National Conferee, Bhrtiya Janta Party, National Panthers Party and State Morcha came on the front row and resorted to shouting.

Shouting “Gali Gali main shoor hai yeh Sarkar choor hai” and “Rishwat Khoor Ministeron Ko Bahir Nikalo”, the opposition members stalled the proceeding of the house.

The members later came to the Well of the House and staged a protest demonstration for more than fifteen minutes. Unable to restore calm, Speaker Tara Chand adjourned the House for half an hour.

The House was adjourned till 11 AM but it assembled again at 11:40 AM. Sources said that Speaker tried to resolve the matter in consultation with the chief whips of ruling coalition and opposition parties but nothing matured.

When the House met again, the NC members were again up in arms against the government. With the aim to disrupt the assembly proceedings, the members stormed well of the House and raised anti-government and anti-ministers slogans for more than twenty minutes.

In the meantime, Panthers Party MLAs stood and started raising slogans. They were demanding dissolution of the House and imposition of governor’s rule in the state.

Finance minister Tariq Hamid Karra made a futile attempt to read over his budget reply. Amid the din and commotion, the minister handed over the copy of the speech to speaker so as to treat it as `read’.

The NC members intensified their agitation and were seen tearing the business copies. Some of them even threw the copies towards the Chair.

Sensing the trouble, the Assembly staff immediately encircled the agitated NC members so as to avoid any clash.

However, the opposition members soon went on rampage and resorted to physical attack so as to disrupt the proceedings. The members turned tables leading to complete commotion in the House.

Unable to bring the House in order, Speaker Tara Chand declared the House adjourned till Monday.

The NC members, however, continued their protest for a while outside the assembly complex.
