Mumbai : Maharashtra remains the most favoured destination for foreign direct investment (FDI) in India, Governor S.M. Krishna said Saturday.
Unfurling the national flag on the occasion of Republic Day, Krishna said Maharashtra attracted FDI of Rs.197 billion in the past three years and 91 mega projects with an investment value of around Rs.1,140 billion.
Present on the occasion was Deputy Chief Minister R.R. Patil. He is officiating in the absence of Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh, who is attending the World Economic Forum (WEF) at Davos.
Krishna said major companies like Boeing, General Motors, Daimler Chrysler, Volkswagen and Renault had set up businesses in Maharashtra and the state had secured approval for 122 special economic zones (SEZs).
He said the state would invest Rs.290 billion to strengthen and modernize power distribution and transmission networks.
