Kolkata : Bengal batsman Manoj Tewari is keen to make the best use of the second opportunity to play for India if given a chance to play in the One-Day International (ODI) triangular series in Australia starting Sunday.
“I am very excited. I want to make the best use of the opportunity given,” Tewari told IANS here.
Tiwari was Tuesday picked to travel as a cover for Yuvraj Singh, who is nursing a knee injury.
“I was told by the CAB [Cricket Association of Bengal] secretary Samar Pal about my call-up for Australia. However, I have not been told about the travel date as yet,” Tiwari said.
Tiwari was previously picked for the Indian ODI side that toured Bangladesh in May last year. But he injured his right shoulder during practice and had to return home even before the series got underway.
Tiwari has been a prolific run scorer and even though Bengal were relegated to the plate division in Ranji Trophy this season, he had reasonable success scoring with two centuries.
Australia and Sri Lanka are the other teams in the fray in tri-series.
India, who lost the four-match Test series 1-2, will also play a Twenty20 International against Australia in Melbourne Friday.
