Discussions would also be held on collection of funds for their mission from internal sources as well as international donors, news agency Indo Asian News Service reported from Dhaka.

“The meeting is taking place amid growing concern over the adverse impact of climate change, like rising sea level that may partially or fully submerge Bangladesh and Maldives,” Bangladesh leading English Daily “New Age” reported Tuesday.

The expert-level meeting would review the possible impacts of climate change on the region and recommend measures to combat the situation through regional cooperation, the news agency said, quoting a Bangladeshi official.

The issues to be discussed at the meeting include impact of climate change on South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) countries, finalizing work strategies, sharing experiences, and identifying financial sources in fighting the impacts of climate change, the official said.

SAARC members include India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal, Bhutan, Afghanistan, Sri Lanka and Maldives.

The 15th SAARC summit will be held at Colombo on August 2-3.
