Kabul sees foreign hand in embassy attack

By KUNA,

Kabul : Afghanistan on Tuesday released the investigation report of the worst blast in its capital Kabul in recent years which states that hand of a foreign intelligence agency could not be ruled out in the blast. Two senior Indian embassy officials besides 39 more people were killed and 140 suffered injuries when a suicide bomber struck his explosive-packed car against the gate of Indian embassy in Kabul’s Shahre Naw locality on Monday morning. The report prepared by the Afghan security organs was presented to the cabinet which met on Tuesday morning and chaired by Afghan President Hamid Karzai. It did not mention any country or a specific intelligence agency, but said the blast could not be carried out without the “full support” of a foreign intelligence agency. Afghan officials usually blame the Pakistani intelligence agency, the Inter-Services Intelligence or ISI for supporting the Taliban in their insurgency against the Afghan government. According to the details released about the cabinet meeting, the terrorists could not carry out such an attack independently. They must have gotten full backing from a foreign intelligence agency, the cabinet was told. The attack on the Indian embassy, which is the deadliest in recent years in Kabul, drew widespread condemnation from the UN and other world countries. Condemning the blast, UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon said those behind it should be brought to justice. He said such “reprehensible” attacks could never be justified whatsoever the political agenda might be.
