Rs. 10,000 cr. to be spent on urban areas development in Madhya Pradesh: CM

Bhopal: Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has said that Rs. 10,000 crores would be spent on the development of urban areas during next five years. These funds would be utilised for ensuring drinking water arrangements, proper sewerage system, solid waste management and infrastructure development.

The Chief Minister was addressing a function under “Mukhyamantri Ashray Yojana-2008” at the Lal Parade ground here on Monday. The function was attended by thousands of poor urban people from Bhopal as well as from across the state who had come to collect rights papers of their residential lands. The Chief Minister said that following receipt of these certificates, the urban poor would not have to worry about displacement from the lands under their possession. Houses equipped with all the basic amenities would be constructed and handed over to them. The function was presided over by Urban Administration and Development Minister Narottam Mishra.

Chouhan said that these funds would be utilised on planned development and beautification of cities apart from ensuring basic amenities to those living urban slum areas following which they would be able to breathe in a clean atmosphere.

He said that the state government was committed to infrastructure development in slum areas and poor people’s habitats. As many as 50,000 housing units were under construction for giving pucca houses to the poor. He said that the state government was also dedicated to the cause of giving rights to the urban poor over the residential lands under their possession and development of their habitats.

The Chief Minister said that Madhya Pradesh government was committed to the cause of common man. During the last four and half years, the state government has implemented welfare schemes to ensure development and progress of every section of society. He said that no financial restrain comes in the way if the intention and policy of the government is directed towards poor people’s welfare.

Reiterating his resolve to get the state included in the list of leading states in the country, the Chief Minister said that this goal cannot be achieved without poor people’s welfare. As a token, the Chief Minister gave away rights papers of residential lands.

It may be mentioned here that residential land right papers are being distributed to 50,937 urban poor people. Bhopal district tops the list with 21,824 beneficiaries and Morena is at the lowest spot with three beneficiaries. These papers would be distributed soon in all the cities.

At today’s programme, the Chief Minister gave away certificates to Mrs. Munni of Morena division, Dharamram of Gwalior, Mrs. Krishna Bai of Bhopal,Mrs. Sushila of Hoshangabad, Mrs. Raju Bai of Indore, Mrs. Parveen of Ujjain, Mrs. Kashulaya Bai of Sagar, Mrs. Munni Bai of Jabalpur, Mrs. Sunita of Rewa, Shiv Charan of Shahdol and Mrs. Hemlata of Chhindwara divisions.

Chouhan also gave away papers to Mrs. Gayatri, Mrs. Girija Devi, Mrs. Sajida and many other beneficiaries of Bhopal city.

The function was also addressed by Principal Secretary of Urban Administration Department Raghav Chandra who gave information about various welfare schemes for the urban poor. ([email protected])
